Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the whole milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar and egg yolks until pale and thick.
  3. Gradually drizzle half of the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking to temper the eggs.
  4. Pour the tempered mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened (about 10 minutes).
