- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (fire-roasted recommended)
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Remove the core from the cabbage and peel off about ten large leaves. Rinse under cold water and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté chopped onions for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in cooked rice, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a baking dish, layer some meat mixture on the bottom. Spoon filling onto each cabbage leaf and roll tightly.
- Place rolled leaves seam side down in the baking dish, pour remaining sauce over them, cover with foil, and bake for one hour.
