- 1 head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch leaves in boiling water for about five minutes until softened.
- 2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent (about three minutes).
- 3. In a bowl, mix cooked rice, ground meat, sautéed onion and garlic; season with salt and pepper.
- 4. Lay out softened cabbage leaves on a cutting board; place two tablespoons of filling onto each leaf and roll tightly.
- 5. Combine tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and sugar in a bowl. Pour half into a baking dish.
- 6. Arrange rolls seam-side down in the dish and cover with remaining sauce. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for one hour.
