- 2 cans (15 oz each) low-sodium black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tbsp water for vegan)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the black beans under cold water.
- In a large bowl, mash the rinsed black beans until chunky.
- Mix in chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, and the egg (or flaxseed mixture) until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into six patties about half an inch thick.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about five minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Assemble your burger with desired toppings on a bun and serve.
