- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- ¼ cup cinnamon sugar mixture (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with a towel. Allow it to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into ropes and shape them into pretzels.
- Bring a large pot of water to boil and carefully add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle coarse sea salt on some pretzels and coat others lightly with cinnamon sugar.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
