Description

Christmas Pretzels are a delightful holiday treat that combines soft, chewy dough with a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors. These festive pretzels are easy to make and customizable, making them an essential addition to your holiday celebrations. With a sprinkle of coarse sea salt or a dusting of cinnamon sugar, each bite offers a warm invitation to indulge in holiday cheer. Bake these treats to create cherished memories with family and friends this season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)
  • ¼ cup cinnamon sugar mixture (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with a towel. Allow it to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into ropes and shape them into pretzels.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to boil and carefully add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle coarse sea salt on some pretzels and coat others lightly with cinnamon sugar.
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
