  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup caramelized onions (about 2 medium onions)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter until golden brown (15-20 minutes). Let cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef, cooled onions, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf in the prepared pan and bake for about 50 minutes.
  5. Add cheese on top in the last 10 minutes of baking until melted.
  6. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
