- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3–4 tbsp ice water
- 1 cup ground beef or turkey (or chicken/plant-based alternative)
- 2 tbsp taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until dough forms. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
- Cook the Filling: Brown the ground meat in a skillet over medium heat. Drain fat and mix in taco seasoning. Cool slightly.
- Roll Out Dough: On a floured surface, roll chilled dough to 1/8 inch thick. Cut out circles using a round cutter.
- Assemble Hand Pies: Place filling and cheese on one half of each circle, fold over, and seal edges.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush tops with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve: Let cool slightly before serving with salsa or guacamole.
