Ingredients
Scale
- 1 head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano or thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the Cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and place it in boiling water for about five minutes until leaves soften. Peel off leaves as they loosen.
- 2. Make the Filling: In a bowl, mix together ground meat, uncooked rice, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and dried herbs until well combined.
- 3. Fill the Cabbage Leaves: Take one softened leaf at a time and place about two tablespoons of filling near its base. Fold in sides and roll tightly from bottom to top. Repeat until all filling is used.
- 4. Assemble in Baking Dish: Pour half of the tomato sauce into a baking dish. Arrange stuffed rolls seam side down on top of the sauce and cover with remaining sauce.
- 5. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake for about one hour until cooked through.
- 6. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving. Transfer rolls onto plates and drizzle with extra sauce if desired.
