Ingredients

  • 1 cup grain alcohol (190 proof)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup filtered water

Instructions

  1. Wash and zest the lemons, avoiding the bitter white pith.
  2. Combine the lemon zest with grain alcohol in a large jar; seal and let steep in a cool dark place for two weeks.
  3. After steeping, prepare sugar syrup by dissolving sugar in water over medium heat; allow to cool.
  4. Strain lemon zest from the alcohol mixture and combine with sugar syrup in a clean bottle.
  5. Seal and refrigerate for one week to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Serve chilled in small glasses or over ice, optionally drizzling over gelato for added delight.
