For the Chicken
  • 4 pieces chicken thighs bone-in, skin-on
  • 1 cup buttermilk for marinating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
For the Waffles
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Serving
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh fruit optional, such as berries

Method
 

Prepare the Chicken
  1. Marinate the chicken thighs in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
Fry the Chicken
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Fry the chicken for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  3. Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
Make the Waffles
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Preheat the waffle maker and pour the batter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Serve
  1. Place a waffle on a plate, top with fried chicken, and drizzle with maple syrup.
  2. Add fresh fruit if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding spices to the flour mixture or serving with hot sauce.
