For the Cake Batter
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Guinness beer
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or milk

Method
 

Baking the Cake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch springform pan with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients in another bowl: Guinness, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Making the Frosting
  1. Beat the unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  2. Add heavy cream or milk to adjust the consistency for easy spreading.
