Ingredients
  

Cupcake Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring optional for decoration
Decoration
  • 12 graduation caps made from chocolate or fondant
  • 12 miniature diplomas made from paper or fondant

Method
 

Make the Cupcakes
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
Make the Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  4. If desired, add food coloring to achieve the desired color.
Decorate the Cupcakes
  1. Using a piping bag, frost the cooled cupcakes with the prepared frosting.
  2. Top each cupcake with a graduation cap and a miniature diploma for decoration.
