Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 1 lb Ground lamb or beef Use lamb for a traditional flavor, or beef for a heartier taste.
  • 1 medium Onion A sweet onion will add depth.
  • 2 medium Carrots Diced.
  • 1 cup Peas Fresh or frozen.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds umami richness.
  • 1 cup Beef broth Good quality for moisture.
For the Mashed Potatoes
  • 2 lb Russet potatoes Ideal for creamy texture.
  • 4 tbsp Butter Feel free to use unsalted.
  • 1/2 cup Milk or cream Cream for richness, milk for lighter texture.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for seasoning.
Optional Topping
  • 1 tbsp Fresh parsley Chopped, for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Sauté onions and garlic in a skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
  3. Brown the ground meat in the same skillet for about 7-10 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Stir in diced carrots and peas, cooking for another 5 minutes until they soften.
  5. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Prepare the mashed potatoes by boiling peeled potatoes until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  7. Mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Layer the filling into a baking dish and spoon the mashed potatoes on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.
  10. Optional: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
