Ingredients

Angel Food Cake
  • 1 cup cake flour sifted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar divided
  • 12 large egg whites room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Strawberry Topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar for macerating
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream chilled
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for sweetening cream

Method

Prepare the Angel Food Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine sifted cake flour and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gently fold in the flour mixture until just combined. Pour the batter into an ungreased angel food cake pan.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the cake is golden and springs back when touched. Invert the pan to cool.
Prepare the Strawberry Topping
  1. In a bowl, combine sliced strawberries and granulated sugar. Let sit for about 15 minutes to macerate.
  2. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
Assemble the Dessert
  1. Once the cake is completely cool, remove it from the pan and slice it into pieces.
  2. Layer the angel food cake pieces in a serving dish, top with macerated strawberries and whipped cream.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!
